The county of Devon is renowned for being one of the most beautiful in the UK. With its Jurassic coastline, captivating castles and rolling countryside, it’s the perfect place to escape for a weekend in your campervan.

Devon is also a surfer’s paradise, with Newquay, Woolacombe and Croyde boasting the best waves for surfers of all abilities. You’ll even find a number of surf schools here if you want to brush up on your technique before going solo.

While you’re packing for your trip, remember that Devon has 8,000 miles of roads – the longest network in the UK – so you’ll want to get good campervan insurance in place before you set off.

Once you’ve compared quotes at Motorhome Protect, and found the right cover for you, you’re ready to get going. But where you should stop along the way? Here’s our roundup of five of the most captivating campsites the county has to offer. Which one will you choose?

The beautiful Croyde Bay is just a stone’s throw away, so surfers and beach lovers will be in their element. The campsite is also affiliated with surf school partner Surfing Croyde Bay, so if you’ve got little ones over eight (or big ones) who want to learn to ride the waves, this is the spot for you. And if you’ve never tried standup paddle boarding, now’s your chance, with hire prices starting from £25 for half a day including the wetsuit.

If you prefer staying on dry land, there are plenty of walking and cycling routes to explore. With a number of electrical hook-ups on site, this is the ideal place to bring your classic VW camper. However, if you’re planning to bring something larger, it’s best to check with the campsite before booking.

With free Wi-Fi, hot showers and a new Snack Shack open for the 2019 season, this is the ideal place to relax after a busy day on the road (or in the sea).
